Which Level PIP Medical Coverage Should You Choose?

If you drive a car in the state of Michigan, it’s your responsibility to purchase auto insurance. You may have questions about your auto insurance policy. If you live in the Zeeland, MI area, our team at Ottawa Insurance Agency is ready to discuss which insurance choices may be best for you. We’ve been providing insurance solutions for clients in your area since 1950.

Which Level PIP Medical Coverage Should You Choose?

One of the auto insurance options you must choose is the PIP (personal injury protection) option. Michigan law now requires that insurance companies provide information about the pros and cons of each coverage level. According to the Michigan Department of Insurance, you can choose six coverage levels. At each level, you select the amount of coverage you want; the PIP will pay for medical expenses resulting from an auto accident – regardless of who is at fault.

The only people allowed to legally opt out from purchasing PIP coverage are those covered by Medicare Parts A & B. Michigan residents who have Medicaid can purchase PIP at an amount up to $50,000. If your health insurance covers injuries sustained in an auto accident, you can buy up to $250,000 with a medical exclusion. The highest PIP available is $500,000.
